What Is It

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is Oracle’s entry into the hyperscale cloud market. Launched in 2018, OCI took advantage of its late-to-market position to learn from the early technical missteps of some of the other cloud providers. With a focus on predictable performance, linear scalability and price, OCI has rapidly expanded to its current footprint of over 50 public regions globally.

Why We Love It

With the majority of our consulting engagements involving core and/or critical infrastructure systems, the cloud has traditionally been dismissed as either “too costly” or “too unpredictable” to offer a valid alternative to on-premises hosting, particularly for legacy, monolithic workloads. Re-platforming for cloud-nativity is undoubtedly the right approach, but that’s both time consuming, and complicated. In most scenarios, OCI offers better than on-prem performance (particularly in the networking and compute space) at a price point that brings migration, even as a medium-long term step towards cloud nativity, into serious consideration.

Once you incorporate the benefits of automation and streamlined operations (not to mention some of the endemic service offerings such as Exadata Cloud), OCI presents a true no-compromise solution for traditional high performance, core enterprise systems.
